September Environmental Horticulture Programs
The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture events for September 2026. These programs are being offered by Environmental Horticulture Agent Cynthia Nazario-Leary and Master Gardener Volunteers.
Fall Vegetable Gardening – Sept. 8, 2026, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).
What vegetables can be planted for a successful fall harvest? Fall vegetable gardening offers an opportunity to extend the growing season and enjoy fresh produce well into the cooler months. With proper planning and plant selection, gardeners can grow a wide variety of crops that thrive in fall conditions and produce abundant harvests.
This presentation explores the fundamentals of fall vegetable gardening, including site preparation, crop selection, planting timelines and seasonal care practices. Participants will also learn how the Square Foot Gardening Method can be used as a simple, efficient approach for establishing and managing a productive fall vegetable garden, especially in small spaces.
There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. It is limited to 100 participants.
Fall Horticultural Expo & Plant Market – Oct. 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alachua County Agriculture & Equestrian Center (23100 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).
The Alachua County Master Gardener Volunteer Program and Gainesville Garden Club are excited to announce an upcoming event offering a fun-filled, family-friendly day of learning, exploration, and community spirit. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, there’s something for everyone. Admission and parking are free.
Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your garden, gain valuable insights from experts, and enjoy a day out with family and friends.
